LEVANDE VATTEN 2024:2

The blog is an attempt to give you all a piece of life in the outdoors. The richnes of life that is interwoven in an unbelievable pattern. Where we as humans are just one of the species in the crowd. A humble approach to nature should be our starting point.

  1. It may be true that we can never create anything with the vitality of water, but you come very close here. The top image is really exciting – it hits the eyes with a big whoosh, just like a wave would. The square one has lots of tension, as if the water was going back and forth between worlds.

    1. Appreciate your way of taking on my sometimes somewhat ambitious works, maybe even a little ”quirky”. My attempt to frame the power of the water with some calmer water went badly this time. The water just wants to go out and on, not shut in.

Read the other day that they are blowing away dams along an entire river in the USA. Not only is the salmon happy, the water itself is revitalized and can create the conditions for a much richer aquatic and terrestrial life. In Sweden, they continue to demolish old migration barriers for trout and salmon. Often they are leftover structures from when timber was floated down the rivers, before the fossil-fueled era of trucks took over in the 1960s.

      1. The dams are coming down, very slowly. Dams have so many impacts on life – humans have to figure out how they can get along without them so rivers can be freed. On a TV program about the Colorado River we heard about the concept of rivers having legal rights to be free. Finally, thinking goes in the right direction! I’m glad to hear Sweden is removing barriers in rivers, too. Lots of work to do, right?

There’s an old boat in our small town here that’s part of a museum now. It was once used to remove big snags in the rivers that impeded the huge logs from floating downriver so they could be sold. Now people realize those snags are important habitat but the logging goes on. I know we need lumber and paper but seeing trucks loaded with cut-up old trees is depressing. The stumps in the woods here are amazing – even on our little island there are huge stumps from when Europeans came in and cut most of the big trees down. We do have some left that are over 400 years old and they are precious.

I still like your framed water! 😉 Have a good day!
