Tystlåten och graciös, lite tillbakadragen, fiskar alfågeln (Clangula hyemalis) en råkall januaridag i Råssö hamn, långt från sina hemtrakter i de högalpina svenska fjällen. Böjer mjukt hela sin kropp, dyker ljudlöst och svingar sist av allt stolt den långa stjärtpennan i en svepande rörelse. Trivs med sällskap av de mer stressiga kniporna eller de sävliga gräsänderna. Både utseende och dess stolta uppseende avviker markant från mängden.

Love the ‘dive’ slideshow! Great photos, the first after the slideshow has beautiful waters. We are lucky to see a few of these on the Chesapeake Bay over the winter, I’m even luckier to have been able to photograph them a few times. In North America, we call them Long-tailed Ducks. Not sure yours or ours name is noble enough for the beauty of this gorgeous bird, even in its winter plumage.

Thank´s Donna, reflections from boat houses in the small harbour. The long tail is truly something special to show up. We usually get to see some of them a couple of times in winter, here on the westcoast of Sweden. They can also be seen up north during summer, but rare now-a-days. I like your english name better then ours.
